Dorm Girl (Part 2)

I’ve attempted vlogging, and I’m pretty sure that I failed quite poorly. Feel free to watch the agony here. I’m still trying to figure out all of the aspects of my webcam, and I had to look down for this because I didn’t want to record it at the kitchen table! πŸ˜›

I also created a DailyBooth account (sabbylove)… Yeah, I looked horrible today. Pft. I want to try to take a picture everyday for at least one month. Luckily for me, I created the account yesterday (1 August 2011).

I decided to do BEDS, and I will hopefully be able to do that from my future dorm that I hope to get this term! πŸ˜‰

I think that having a dorm would help me to land some friends close to my age. I’ll also have a roommate, which is something I’ve found to be really cool and fun. There are a few fellow bloggers who have had a bad experience with college roommates, a few bloggers who have had a good experience with college roommates and then there are bloggers who are against having a roommate altogether.

However, in order to continue going to this community college, living on campus would be much better than driving an hour to my classes each day that I need to go. After all, money for gas is scarce these days. -.-

I’d really like to continue going to this college, too, because I’m already in. I don’t want to go through all of the hassle to enroll in a new college when I already know some people that are going to be going to this campus this term, anyway.

Besides, maybe I’ll make a best friend there. Of course, she/he will never replace my current best friends, but this one would be close by (literally). :3

Also, wouldn’t it be similar to living on my own? πŸ˜›

It may also help me overcome my shyness and develop some more social skills…

…Watch. I’m going to end up blogging a lot this month because of everything that is going on, and that’s going to suck because I don’t want to. >.> Not until September…

Oh, by the way… To live on campus, I would have to go full-time… But it’ll be worth it, right?

[…] I’ll be paying for it out-of-pocket, AKA with my own money. Next semester I hope to have a dorm. Somehow. Someway. I’ll figure it out. But I really want a dorm – soon. I need all of […]

I like your vlog! I’ve done a few and it’s usually be rambling on about things, which is what I do IRL anyway, haha. I’d like to see some more. Also, I think it’s great you want to live in a dorm. My college is literally a 10 minute walk from my house, so I missed not being able to experience the campus life. Now as a grad student, I’m there more and wish I could have actually lived there. I think it’ll be fun for you. I wish you the best of luck, and make sure to update us on the dorm happenings. I’ll live vicariously through you, haha!

I stayed in dorms during university in the UK. It’s not normal to share a room with anyone in university here. Most students will have their own room, it’s pretty rare to find room sharing. I love having a own room, I’m not sure if I’ll like sharing a room with someone. I like my own privacy.

We have communal areas like kitchen or living rooms where people from dorms would hang out together or we could hang out in one of the bedrooms.

University (what you guys called college) was totally amazing. Scary to leave behind high school friends but after 3 years I became much closer to my university friends. Sadly I don’t talk to my high school friends that often anymore, only the really close ones. I still talk to my university friends often though.

I really only had close friends in high school, and if you want to mark it down, I only had one real friend in high school. …Minus my church friends. πŸ˜›

There is university… I’m just attending a community college. I don’t really think it’s anything bad, but some people (like my ex-boyfriend) frown highly upon it, and they think it’s not anything good at all. πŸ˜› It’s okay, though, because I’m in school as opposed to him, who isn’t. He’s got nothing on me. x)

No sharing of rooms? That’s really different! πŸ˜› I always thought dorm students had roommates in the UK. πŸ˜›

Hm, I wonder if this dorm will have a kitchen? I hope it doesn’t really look too boring or too school-like. Like, I’d be living there for a semester, so it can’t be too school-like, right? I don’t know. D;

Gosh, I think it’s wonderful that Americans have the dormitory college system. We don’t have that as a general rule here in Australia, so, like you mentioned about travelling an hour to get to your classes, that’s what I actually do. It’s horrible, so I’m going to insist that you cherish dorm life. It’s a great opportunity to meet new people, and maybe even reinvent yourself while you’re at it. Don’t think too much on it and just enjoy it πŸ™‚

I’m actually hoping I will be able to sort of recreate myself and actually be who I’m struggling so hard to be. Maybe it’s just what I need to figure the rest of me as a puzzle out? πŸ˜› I’m hoping so! πŸ™‚

I went to college but I never really experienced college life before. I’ve never had to live in a dorm because school was so close to home. I kind of always wanted to live in a dorm, so I’m sure you’ll have a good time living with a roomie. πŸ˜‰

It’s crazy how some people can take a picture of themselves EVERYDAY for like five years (as seen on YouTube videos). I think that’s nuts, I don’t think I can even past to a week. Haha

Haha, right? I’m most likely going to get bored of taking photos of me everyday after a week or so. P:

When you vlog more, you learn more- and you’ll be more better at it! We all have to start somewhere :)! I always wanted to vlog, but mehh. :X.

I like dailybooth for what it is- taking pictures of yourself for as long as you want :)! Good luck with your goal!

Having a dorm room mate is a gamble. You either have an awesome one, or a horrible one :X! It’s up to you to make the best out of it! :)! And I hope you’ll have an awesome dorm mate!

When you’re living out of your house, make it as fun as it can be! :)!

Take care!

I couldn’t find it, and now I don’t know where the page is. Dx Grr.

I never lived in a dorm at school. I wish I had of though. I have heard good and bad about both so I think it is probably going to be point of view and to just go in and do it without any expectations if you can and soak in the atmosphere and the moment(s) that come πŸ™‚

As for your comment, I respect people with their own thoughts and opinions so feel free to say what is ever on your mind when you pass by. If I didn’t want an opinion I wouldn’t have blogged about it or even have a blog so you are more then fine.

Hehe, yeah. I’m kind of really excited and looking forward to it… It would be something awesome to do, methinks! πŸ˜›

I think that living away from home would do you a lot of good. Both my boyfriend and I agree that we grew up and learned to handle ourselves when we weren’t living at home. Using your independence well, as opposed to using it to do drugs and other things like that, will make you a stronger, happier person, especially if your life at home isn’t that great. I can guarantee you that.

It helps to be friends and on good terms with your roommate. Depending on who your roommate is, it is usually a good experience and one you will learn a lot from. Most people are reasonable people, so as long as you’re willing to talk any issues you have out, I wouldn’t worry too much about all the horror stories. You will never be more social than when you live in a dorm. You should take advantage of that opportunity. At least I’m very happy that I have.

I also think that you should think about transferring colleges if you do well in school. A degree from a non-community college is always much more powerful than one from a community college. Shouldn’t have to be that way, but it’s just the way things are now.

Aha, this is funny, I just blogged about college! Cool, though. I think it’s really beneficial if you dorm–you’ll definitely get to meet new people and best of all, you WILL feel independent; at least that’s what I think. I’m going several hours away so I’ll definitely have to fend for myself when my family isn’t around. I hope everything works out for you!

Haha, that’s ironic. πŸ˜›

Thanks! I hope it all works out for you, too! πŸ™‚

Ooh, I think you’d really love living in a dorm πŸ™‚ There’s a ton of horror stories out there but if you complete the handy questionnaire odds are you’ll end up with someone who isn’t too bad at least. I went to a community college my first year and am transferring to living in a dorm at private uni in less than two weeks, and I’m super excited πŸ™‚ I kinda hope my roommate and I don’t become super best friends because we’d drive each other crazy living together, but I think it’ll work out well as we’re similar and like to have our own quiet time. So I can’t say for sure if dorm life is great, but it seems like it on the outside xDD

Yeah, I’m not really up for the exact definition of best friends for whatever our relationship would be, I just hope that it won’t be so bad to the point that we aren’t friends at all, because then that would be awkward. P:
