What did you say?

I can’t hear. My left ear is so stopped up. I am guessing it is because of the Q-tips I have been using to hopefully clean out my ears. Bad decision. How so, you ask? I researched a little, and I learned that cotton swabs aren’t for cleaning out your ears, because they can actually push the earwax farther into your ear, causing an ear infection.

Well, that explains a lot. I wish people would not have taught me to clean my ears out with cotton swabs, you know?

If you currently feel like you’re life is super complicated right now, take a step into my current state of frustration:

White noise is all you can hear out of your left ear. You have only your right ear to depend on. When your left ear starts to clear up, ignore it, and avoid getting your hopes up because it isn’t for good. Your ear will feel the pressure again. You’re going to get headaches, and you’re not going to really be able to listen to more than one thing at once. You’re going to feel dizzy and lightheaded, and everything you want to say probably isn’t going to come out right, so don’t say anything relating to serious matters or that you will later regret. Scrabble is a good hobby to get into because it will help stimulate your brain and keep you busy during this time that you feel like crabs.

Feel my pain now? It’s hard trying to figure out what people are saying when they aren’t on my right side, to break up fights between my siblings and/or to just get them to listen and quit doing what they are doing in general. It’s as if this gives them a free ride to do whatever they want.

I just want to watch TV if I am going to be in the living room. I have a big enough headache already[1. It hurts so bad that I could probably cry.]; I don’t need the kids fighting and/or tattling on each other. If I have to listen to them, I have to focus on that. I can’t multitask on the hearing right now, and I feel like no one understands what I feel like right now.

I despise my left ear right now. I am so annoyed with it, and I have been for quite a long time.

Awh. That’s bad. Well you shouldn’t worry much about it. Go immediately to a doctor, and he’ll help you out. Well anyway, you should be more careful when cleaning your ears and don’t postpone your doctor meeting otherwise the wax inside your ear will dry and become as hard as a rock, and it’ll be harder to pull it out. I watched that on the famous “The Doctors” show.
Hope my advice will help you, and push your further and get to see a doctor! πŸ™‚

Haha, my ear is better now, though! Thanks! However, I hate going to the doctor. Dx

This sucks T_T I guess even while using Q-tips I guess you need to be careful about how you are actually cleaning your ears. I can imagine them pushing the wax further down thus creating this problem πŸ™

I hope you can get it treated soon though…like maybe get a prescribed ear drop or something. Take care!

I use cotton buds to clean my ear as well but I do know that it isn’t good for the ear. It’s better to use those ear drops especially for cleaning earwax. I actually use those drops every now and then to clear all the earwax that’s been pushed back from cotton buds. Cotton buds are just more convenient and quicker than those drops.

How long will your ear be like that? It’s only temporary right?

My ear isn’t hurting anymore – thanks!

I have never been a fan of using cotton swabs. If I do use them to clean out my ears, I’ll wet them first. But normally I use ear wax solution or something and neatly get all the wax out.

Occasionally, I have that problem with my ear to, but that stopped when I discontinued using cotton swabs. When all that wax gets stuck in your ear it can cause you not to be able to hear. A doctor could flush your ears for you, I’ve had to do it a couple of times, and after it was done I could hear perfectly. πŸ™‚

I never even knew there was a such thing as an earwax solution – I lived a sheltered life. >.>

My ear is actually better now, but I think one day I will have a doctor clean my ears out simply because I think it would help me a lot more with the hearing thing. πŸ˜›

Ah, I hate ear infections. I use q-tips, but mostly for the outer ear unless I just got out of the shower and everything is all loosened up in there. Maybe I should stop all together.

I hope you get your hearing back. Maybe you should do one of those candlewax cleanings. I don’t know HOW they work, but I hear that they’re wonderful.

@Gabi – I can actually hear now, thank you! … Candlewax cleaning? That sounds very … weird!!

I actually like cleaning my ears when they feel really full of earwax. I use a special ear cleaner that looks a bit like a bobby pin, and I have another that looks like a little spatula kind of thing. They don’t really push your earwax around. I think it’s yet again another trivial thing that people worry about. Most earwax is supposed to fall out naturally. πŸ˜›

I hope your ear feels better soon! D: Also, I think buds and Q-tips or whatever you call them are good for cleaning the outer ear if they get a bit dirty. Not the best thing for the inside though.

The only thing I’ve had hurt enough for me to cry is my toe… I don’t know what happened to it, but many months ago it was throbbing so much in pain and I wasn’t sure if it was a bruise or the edge of my toenail being a bitch… but yeah. πŸ˜›

I’m learning about all of these ear cleaning products I never knew could ever exist… It’s crazy and weird and cool all at the same time! :O But actually, my ears are much better now… Thank you. :3

Ooh, I had something like that with my knee last year… It happens every year – it’s as if it goes out of place for a few days. I can’t walk on it at all, and it feels broken. I’m sorry about your toe! I hate toenails sometimes… My mom once said it hurts when it’s time to clip them, but if that’s the case, then am I expected to clip the skin, too? It’s like I could feel it growing… Maybe that’s what happened to you? Maybe you could feel it growing. D;

I’m sorry to hear about your ear. :/ I suggest going to the doctor and asking for medication you can put in your ear. If you leave it untreated it might become worse, and there’s a chance you could permanently lose your hearing in that ear.

Even if you’re busy, you hearing is much more important. Take care of it!

My ear is actually better now! πŸ™‚ Thank you, though. :}

I clean out the ear wax in my ears every month with a really small tool (I don’t know what it’s called). My mom actually forces me to do it, worrying that the earwax will build up and give me hearing loss. I’ve been told by others that I never should stick anything deep in my ear, but I do it anyway. πŸ˜› I don’t regularly clean my ears with Q-tips, though.

I actually have really good hearing, but whenever I’m in a crowd of people, I always have to ask the person I’m talking to to repeat what he/she is saying, and it’s not because of the crowd being loud.

Have you gone to the doctor yet?

I haven’t went to the doctor – I honestly hate going to the doctor. >.>

I have good hearing, too! I can’t help it, actually. When someone starts talking, I automatically start listening. It isn’t my fault, and my brother, Tony and my mom all seem to hate it. But if more than two people are talking, then I’m completely lost, you know? Blah. -.-

My ear isn’t hurting anymore, though! πŸ˜€

If there is an Asian grocery store nearby, there are little bamboo earwax scoopers that you can use to clean out your ears instead. I’ve been using them on and off for several years, and I haven’t had an infection yet.

But for now, perhaps you’d need a nurse to give you ear drops to remove the earwax. (I know that you hate going to the doctor! I hope that this comes out all right!)

There isn’t an Asian grocery store anywhere around here, but your suggestion seems like a really cool one… If I ever come across one, I’ll have to check it out! It seems much better than the cotton swabs.

Everything is better now, though. πŸ˜€

Awww! Yeah, don’t use Q Tips, probably not the best. My friend was in that situation not too long and it happened to BOTH his ears. He went to the doctors right away and they just cleaned his ears (i guess, not too sure but they did something) and apparently he never knew he could hear so clearly!

Ah, that would really suck! /abu My ears are better now, though. πŸ™‚

I’m sorry your ear hurts! πŸ™ I’ve heard the same thing about using cotton swabs to clean out your ears. Although I still use them because I feel gross not cleaning out my ears and …. what else could you use? πŸ˜› I hope you feel better soon!

I’ve gotten a lot of different suggestions on here that I have found to be pretty cool – via the comments on this page, I mean.

But it’s actually better/gone now! πŸ˜€

Shucks I know how you feel! I’ve never had that kind of ear infection but for a time, I was quite deaf for pretty much the whole day coz of a gig I went to the night before. My ear really hurt so much that day that there was this buzzing sound, it was so annoying πŸ™ You should have that checked before it gets worse!

It’s alright. πŸ˜› It’s all gone now, though. πŸ™‚ I’m sorry about your ear, though!

Hello Liz! Your site is looking great. How have you been? Have you had a good past couple of months?

I’m sorry to hear you are having hearing problems! I think I have a chronic ear infection or something because my ears are really messed up, but I don’t think you want to hear any details. (: Yeah, Q-Tips are bad for your ears but I use them anyway.

It stinks that your siblings are taking advantage of your hearing loss to fight too! They probably don’t understand that it actually hurts. Have you told them that you have a headache? Maybe they will be sympathetic.

Nope! Why would they ever have sympathy for me!? Kidding, kidding… They do sometimes, but this happens only RARELY! >.> Grr. I’m thanking God it’s gone, though! :}

I’ve been alright. In this post I have pretty much discussed my living situation and almost everything that has been going on for quite some time now… I decided to blog about it so that I can refer to it later. …I’ve found that blogging about things NOW help me to better explain and to actually be able to blog about them later because at least some details would have already been explained, you know?:)

Aww, I hope things will get better soon! Ear ache is..the worst pain. It can start to feel like a headache and then make your neck&shoulders sore and, and..yup. That does not sound fun at all!

@Shiri – Thanks! I think it was mostly allergies, actually! All of the earache pain and the pains related to it are now gone, but now it’s just a matter of getting rid of my sore throat! P: Thank you. πŸ™‚

You poor sweetheart. Blocked ears are horrible as are anything remotely to do with ears. That is my most sensitive part on my body. I sometimes can’t even put earrings in and in winter I have to wear earmuffs (yeah, an Aussie wearing muffs :-P) … I hope this gets sorted soon <3

Haha, I’m allergic to earrings, so I already can’t wear them. P:

Thank you! Things really are better now! πŸ™‚

Hahah i get that a lot because i write too small. You should so do it. πŸ˜€

I use to q-tips too but the trick to it is getting wet before you put it in your ear. This way the wax sticks to it and doesn’t come off.

I’ve wrote it, but I think I’ll write it all over again later, like closer to BEDS. πŸ˜›

Hm, I see… That explains why my grandmother dipped the cotton swabs into Hydrogen Peroxide before she cleaned my ears… I didn’t think to get them wet! P:

thank you and no problemo! πŸ˜€

i’ve had the same problem you are having but with my right ear. you should probably get an ear cleaner or go to the doctor to clean out your ears.

It’s actually all better now, but thank you! πŸ™‚

I’ve had this problem before except it was in both ears, and I have never used q-tips in my ears. My dad had problems with ear wax, and I inherited it from him I guess. I went to the doctor and a nurse cleaned out my ears by shooting water into them. It sounded like an airplane was taking off in my head. It worked great though, and they recommended an over the counter ear wax remover. Maybe you could try one of those.

It actually went away on it’s own; yesterday was foggy, but today is great! Thank you. πŸ™‚
